Special »K«
It was love at first sight: as part of the crowdsourcing campaign ‘Schrift in der Stadt’ (Writing in the City) for the Vienna Museum, I came across this cheeky ‘K’ from a now-closed button shop on Favoritenstraße. How many button shops will still be around in a few years? The owner kindly allowed me to use the ‘K’ for my own purposes.
The rolling shutter of my print studio in Grundsteingasse is also adorned with the letter ‘K’. It was painted by Josef Samuel, Vienna’s last sign painter and operator of Europe’s only sign painting museum.
Last-minute rescue
Monday, 8 October 2018
Rescued from ruins literally at the last minute! After the button shop closed, the portal was covered up for a long time. Now the building has been demolished. Thanks to the rapid assistance of the Doneiser company, the gilded glass sign was salvaged.
