Mid-Century Vienna
Auf den Spuren des Aufbruchs
The cityscape of Vienna is associated worldwide with the Gründerzeit, Art Nouveau and the buildings of ‘Red Vienna’. Although the architecture and design of the 1950s and 1960s have also left their mark, they have received far less attention to date. My book and exhibition project aimed to bring Vienna’s representatives of ‘Mid-Century Modern’ into the spotlight.
To this end, I spent over a year with photographer Stephan Doleschal tracking down these witnesses to the optimistic years of the economic miracle. With guest contributions by Susanne Reppé, Al Bird Sputnik, Peter Payer and Wojciech Czaja.
