Atelierhaus Wien
More than a century ago, the Otto Wagner Hospital complex, built in pavilion style by architect Otto Wagner, was one of the most modern and largest psychiatric clinics in Europe. During the Nazi era, the institution served to ‘destroy life unworthy of life’.
Today, the City of Vienna is leading the Otto Wagner complex into a new future. This unique ensemble with its valuable green space is being transformed into a place for culture, science, education, remembrance and more.
From 2027, the Atelierhaus Wien will be implemented as a new arts and culture location in the renovated Pavilion 18 and will be available to artists and creative professionals as well as for an international artist-in-residence programme run by the City of Vienna.
Designing the branding and wayfinding in this historic setting is both challenging and inspiring. The design draws on the pavilion’s forms and colours and is being implemented in close consultation with the Federal Monuments Office and the architects.
